Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Elder abuse is any act which causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust, such as a family member, relative or friend. It can be physical, social, financial, psychological or sexual and can include mistreatment and neglect.
A key driver of elder abuse is ageism. Our campaign in support of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day wants people to reflect on their perceptions of ageing and actively connect with seniors to support their needs and rights to be safe and respected in our community.
