What comes to mind when you imagine an older person on the front page of a magazine or flyer? Is it a frail hand touching another hand? Someone sipping a tea in the sunlight (which actually sounds lovely) longingly looking out the window?
There is nothing wrong with drinking a cuppa, the problem is that often it’s the only way older people are represented in the media and publications, supporting stereotypes of fragility with ageing and not giving a fair representation of how older people ARE living!
The Respecting Seniors Network, alongside Frankston City Council created a FUN intergenerational photo competition to challenge the stereotypes of ageing by “Taking a photo of your favourite older person doing their favourite thing.” This challenge gave opportunity for the photographer to think about how the person in the photo lives and spends their time in the real world! And the best part is (other than winning a prize) is they get to showcase the great things about their person to the wider community and help stamp out stereotypes!
There were so many wonderful and heartwarming photos entered and now we can present to you THE TOP 10 which are NOW on display throughout Frankston City Council’s Seniors Festival at Hard Livin HQ
and YOU have the power to choose the People’s Choice Award
